§ 1 – Access & conduct
- Access during HdM’s regular opening hours.
- Quiet, mindful behaviour; mutual respect and consideration.
- Treat the room and its furnishings with care; leave it clean.
- Report damage/issues immediately: vs-struktur@hdm-stuttgart.de.
§ 2 – Not permitted
- Loud noise, loud talking, making music, phone calls, meetings or working.
- Eating, smoking or sleeping in the room.
- Rituals/spiritual group activities – the room is for individual quiet practice.
- The room is not a storage place; take personal items with you after use.
§ 3 – Neutrality & openness
- No denominational affiliation; ideologically neutral.
- Individual religious/spiritual practice is possible – without public, collective or permanent displays.
- No proselytising, advertising or showcasing of specific worldviews.
§ 4 – Conflicts & exclusion
- If rules are ignored, the Student Body may temporarily or permanently restrict access.
- HdM’s house rules and room regulations apply in addition and unchanged.

The Student Body (VS) of Stuttgart Media University (HdM) establishes the Quiet Room as a calm and neutral place for reflection, pausing, meditation and individual prayer – open to all students, without coercion and without institutional or religious affiliation.
§ 1 – Access and conditions of use
(1) The Quiet Room is accessible during HdM’s regular opening hours. There is no entitlement to exclusive use.
(2) Users commit to quiet and mindful behaviour, mutual respect and consideration, careful treatment of the room and its furnishings, leaving the room clean, and reporting any damage/disturbances immediately by email to vs-struktur@hdm-stuttgart.de.
§ 2 – Prohibited use
(1) In particular, not permitted are loud noises of any kind (e.g. loud talking, making music, phone calls or working), any form of eating, smoking or sleeping, as well as ritual, spiritual or collective activities in groups.
(2) Personal spiritual or meditative items may be brought for individual use. The room must not be used for storage.
(3) Whispering is only allowed if it does not disturb others.
§ 3 – Neutrality and openness
(1) The room is not denominationally bound. Religious, ideological or spiritual signs are possible in individual practice – but not in collective, visible or permanent form.
(2) The room must not be used for proselytising, advertising or the display of particular worldviews.
§ 4 – Conflicts & exclusion
(1) The Student Body reserves the right to temporarily or permanently exclude users from access in case of violations.
(2) Exclusion may occur especially if HdM’s house rules are disregarded, the room is used for disruptive, dangerous or abusive purposes, or other users are repeatedly disturbed/disadvantaged.
(3) HdM’s house rules and the regulations on room use remain unaffected.
§ 5 – Final clause
These Rules of Use enter into force upon publication. Changes or additions will be announced by the Student Body.
FAQ
May I pray/meditate in the room? (toggle)
Yes, individual quiet practice is explicitly intended. Group rituals or visible/collective displays are not permitted.
May I listen to music with headphones? (toggle)
Yes, as long as you are considerate of others and keep the volume low on headphones. The room should remain quiet. Please refrain from calls, meetings or working – the Learning World or the Library are better suited for that.
May I eat or drink? (toggle)
Having a drink is of course fine. Please avoid larger meals or snacks in the room – better before or after, so it stays calm and pleasant for everyone. Smoking and sleeping are not allowed in the room.
Is the room accessible? (toggle)
Yes, the room is barrier-free accessible. It’s on the 3rd floor and reachable via the glass elevator in the main building.
Can I reserve the room? (toggle)
No, the room cannot be reserved exclusively and is intended for simultaneous individual use.

Milestones
VS backs the idea; “White Egg” as interim solution; involvement of university management agreed.
Quiet Room working group set up; fire protection work May–Oct 2025; Rules of Use approved by the Chancellor and Legal Counsel.
Room 317 (“White Egg”) will be used temporarily as the Quiet Room. Responsibility for implementation, communication and care: VS Chair (delegation possible).
After fire-safety measures are completed, final furnishing, signage and communication will follow.
